Rockhampton CC 244/6 beat Kingsholm CC 161 all out by 83 runs
Sunday saw the Davidstow National Village Knockout Gloucestershire regional final take place at The Boundary Field between Rockhampton and Kingsholm. Despite a delayed start, no overs were lost and the teams got underway at around 2:00pm. Rockhampton batted first and the Tyler brothers put on a century stand for the opening wicket as Will Tyler in particular took the attack to the Kingsholm bowlers as he blasted his way to an entertaining and ultimately match winning 86 off just 66 balls.
His brother meanwhile was a bit more cautious in approach but his fifty was jut as crucial as others were able to come in and play around him with Rob Belbin (29), Jamie Wakefield (19), Will Cartlidge (24 Not Out) and Chris Willoughby (21) were all able to come in and play their shots from ball one as Matt Tyler (57 from 101 balls) remained the rock in helping the hosts post a pretty formidable 244/6 from their 40 overs.
Kingsholm were never given a sniff by the opening bowlers and it was soon clear that they would not get close to the victory target as Pearce (1/7) and Will Cartlidge (1/5) were able to bowl 14 overs for just 12 runs with Pearce in particular being completely unplayable.
Credit to Kingsholm pair, Markey and White who both scored good fifties but the required rate was continued to creep up and along with wickets falling, the match was soon over as a contest as Hancox, Wakefield and Willoughby all picked up two wickets apiece to see Kingsholm bowled out for 161 in the final over.
Rockhampton are now into the last 32 of the competition and will take on the winners of the Wales group, Miskin Manor CC on Sunday 26th June with a 1:00pm start at The Boundary Field.
