Rockhampton CC Youth presentation evening – 2019

RCC held their annual end of season youth presentation on a glorious evening with Autumn fast approaching. The good turn-out saw many new & more regular faces from the thriving youth section, whose membership headed up towards 100 players this season from U5/6’s (in the shape of the All-Starts initiative run this season) up to U17’s.

‘Stand-in’ Youth chairman John Vercoe introduced the main event, the coaches speeches & player awards which saw the following winners:

Team highlights included:

U11’s – winning SDCA A league & GYCL (Sunday) South League winners

U12’s – (containing our ‘young’ U13’s) Damian Forder CA indoor league plate winners, SDCA indoor league plate winners.

U13’s – Good development & competitive in all forms/matches with 5 wins & a thrilling last ball victory against Thornbury. A number of opposition teams commented on the teams all round abilities & impressive fielding displays.

U15’s – Good experience for Rams 12 & 13 year olds who made up the nucleus of the team.

Individual highlights:

U11’s saw Louis Warren average 63 in the BYCL with the bat & just one run behind the highest BYCL batsman in the age group – with the ball Jardel Furness took 12 wickets at an avg’ of 11. Finley Sherred-Isles (U9) took 9 wickets & 3rd in batting average with Alfie Huke 2nd. Matt Lang hit a maiden 50 in the GYCL.

U13’s witnessed Adam Jackson average 58 with the bat, whilst Ben Long finished top run scorer with 240 runs, averaging 48. He & Tom Rogers both hit maiden 50’s in Sunday GYCL With the cherry, Ben took 13 wickets at an avg’ of 13.92 (whilst topping the club bowling averages at 12.2 with George Collett). Jack Warren took 9 wickets at an average of 15.92.

U15’s with the bat saw Ben Long hit 99 runs, averaging 49 & Tiger Sherred-Isles averaging 26. George Collett took 5 wickets in SDCA league in 7 overs & won the SDCA age group bowling average award.

A mention also for the young wicketkeepers behind the timbers – Ollie Young, Oliver Vercoe & Jimmy Twemlow all showing development.

U10/U11’s – Eddie Holden, Finley Sherred-Isles, Louis Warren U12’s – Ollie Young, Alfie Huke, Jardel Furness, Leo Bloodworth U13’s – Ben Long, Adam Jackson, Tiger Sherred-Isles, Jack Warren

Congratulations to Finley who has since progressed into the final winter County squad at U10’s. Leo Bloodworth progressed to the final trial at U12’s as did Ben Long at U13’s, but neither progressed into the final Winter squad. The latter after representing the County at U10’s, U11’s & Winter training squad at U12’s last year. Well done to these two who will be in the District team as are the others listed above.
